This week we’re taking an introductory look at company law. In future weeks we’ll look at the various forms of company and related terms in detail, but for now basic concepts.
Dzisiejsze słowo dnia: Corporation
Tłumaczenie/Polski odpowiednik: (polskie tłumaczenie danego słowa) – ‘korporacja’, duża Spółka Akcyjna.
Tłumaczenie:
Technically ‘corporation’ and the related adjective ‘incorporated’ refer to legal entities (jednostki) which have a clear separation of owners and directors. Corporation usually also refers to a company listed [notowane] on the stock exchange. Once again, however, there are linguistic complications and we need to be careful. Corporations has come to be a pejorative political term, referring to ‘impersonal, amoral or worse immoral large businesses having a negative impact on society, employees or the world at large’. In this sense, corporation might refer to a private limited company – if it were large enough, an ‘corporate’ enough in its company culture. The Polish ‘korporacja’ on the other hand, is also used to mean a branded group of (most commonly) taxis – meaning they are using the same logo and pricing policy, regardless of whether the ‘corporation’ is a pirvate limited company emplying taxi drivers, or an association of individual businesses (‘sole traders’) etc.
